Room Area & Wall Estimation Calculators
Calculate square footage, perimeter lengths, wallpaper rolls, drywall sheets, trim molding, and odd-shaped room dimensions with certified architectural accuracy.
All Room & Wall Calculators (5 Tools)
Room Area Calculator
Calculate square footage, square meters, perimeter, and cubic volume for rectangular and L-shaped rooms.
Wall Area Calculator
Calculate gross and net vertical wall surface area minus windows, doors, and fireplaces.
Square Metres Calculator (m²)
Calculate square metres from metres, centimetres, or millimetres with instant imperial sq ft conversion.
Wallpaper Calculator
Calculate single and double wallpaper rolls factoring pattern repeat drop and match waste.
Skirting Board & Baseboard Calculator
Calculate linear footage, board lengths (8ft, 12ft, 16ft), miter corner cut waste, and nail counts.
Room Geometry & Wall Takeoff Methodology
Architectural rules for calculating drywall sheets, wallpaper pattern repeats, and complex room boundaries.
Geometric Decomposition for Odd Rooms
When estimating L-shaped, T-shaped, or octagonal rooms, divide the floor plan into separate rectangular sections (Area = Length × Width) and right triangles (Area = 0.5 × Base × Height). Sum each sub-area together to find net floor and ceiling square footage.
Drywall Sheet Optimization (4x8 vs 4x12)
Standard gypsum drywall sheets cover 32 square feet (4ft × 8ft) or 48 square feet (4ft × 12ft). Using 12-foot drywall panels on long residential walls reduces tapered mud joint seams by 25%, resulting in faster taping, cleaner finishes, and less joint compound consumption.
Wallpaper Pattern Repeat Buffers
Wallpaper rolls cannot be calculated solely on square footage. Patterns with a vertical drop match or large pattern repeat (e.g., 18 inches to 24 inches) require cutting off matching segments per strip, increasing required roll counts by 15% to 25% compared to plain textures.
Trim & Baseboard Linear Footage
Baseboard and crown molding materials are purchased in linear feet. Measure perimeter wall runs and deduct doorway openings, then add a 10% allowance for 45-degree miter cuts and scarf joint overlaps along continuous straight runs.
